In 1997 my husband, Jeff was farming over 2000 acres of Almonds and Walnuts in the Northern Sacramento Valley. Most of our clients knew we had parrots. Our friends who also had birds were unable to buy bulk nuts year round. Word got out that we had an outlet for in shell bulk nuts.
At the same time I had done months of hands on research designing and sewing cage covers and trying to come up with something for the area under the cage to mitigate the mess. Parrots are notoriously untidy pets! I have been sewing for over 40 years and have experience designing and manufacturing custom garments and home décor items. My husband encouraged me to design a cage cover that would last more than a few months. Parrots chew and everything we covered them with was soon full of custom ‘windows.’ After months of trial and error I came up with a cover that could be designed and produced to fit any cage, and sturdy enough to literally last for years. Jeff came up with the idea to start a website that would showcase my custom cage covers, floor coverings and our wholesale nut business.
The idea of the name came from a “play on words”. Living with 6 parrots, 2 dogs, a cat, two turtles and Koi; it soon became apparent that our life truly had GoneNutz.
