Art and Design
The following provides a guide to understanding the possibilities in designing your bib or floor cover to best suit your home and taste. These are but a glimpse into the possibilities, as our goal is in assisting you in achieving the look you envision. We are striving to personalize our pieces to such a level that, as with other art in your home, you enjoy them as much for their expression as for their functionality!
The Basics:
Style & Measurements
We offer two basic styles of bib; Flat
& Slotted. The standard mat in each style measures 48"
wide by 56"
deep, assuming the door to be at the front. This sized mat is ideal for a 24"
x 24" cage. The apron on both sides and the rear measures 12". The
front has been extended an additional 8" to add protection for those times
when your bird is perched or playing on the open door or while cleaning the cage
(as with Dylan). We will assume that the "width" dimension you provide is the
front of your cage!!! If for any reason you would choose to move a slotted
bib in & out for servicing from the side, please notate this in the comments
or contact Patti.
For cages of a different size, measure the footprint of the cage. This measurement determines the apron on both sides and the rear. To determine the apron on the front, measure the width of the door and add 6". For large birds (Macaws, Hyacinths, Greenwing, ... ), use your judgment based on your experience with your bird. A good approach to deciding the final dimension is to monitor the area around the cage that you wish to protect!! The primary purpose of the bib is a defense against soft food, fruit and droppings, not seed wars.
If your cage is on casters, and you are interested in a slotted bib, BE CERTAIN THEY ARE IN THE POSITION YOU PREFER WHEN THE MAT IS IN PLACE!!! The slot will be cut according to this measurement and CANNOT be altered. Measure to the point where the caster contacts the floor, from center to center. Our personal bibs are cut with the casters tucked beneath the cage at 45 degree angles. This facilitates vacuuming, sweeping & sponging while providing a cleaner appearance.
All measurements should be taken in inches. The "width" is the front of the cage or "door side". The "depth" is the sides, front to the back of the cage.

Color

Backgrounds - We use Glidden's interior flat latex paints as our standard. The "Southwest" (S-SW-1001), for example, is done in a "Soft Wheat" .

Characters - Again, we have chosen Plaids "Folkart" acrylic paint as our standard. Here, the "Southwest" (S-SW-1001) uses three colors; Hunter Green, Maroon & Linen.
To assist you in choosing the colors best suited for you and your home, we are providing you links to the Glidden & Plaid sites and an alternate to a page on the web site. Each has excellent color palettes from which to select. Again, the Glidden paints are background and the Plaid are character!
The "Glidden Chart" & "Plaid Chart" offer another option in assisting you in your color choice. These were taken from samples we prepared for our own use.

On the Glidden site, click on the "Color Visualizer" for the color of your choice. Again, our standard is a flat latex paint. The sealant process adds sheen.
Plaid or Plaid Chart
For use of the "Plaid" site's color presentation:
Click on "More Colors"
Place the cursor over your selection and record the Name.
Design
We have many designs of different themes: Southwest, Nature, Eastern, Holidays, Fun, ...
For those of you wanting a totally custom design, we offer that as well. The following border, "Garden Lattice", is an example of one customer's special request. This particular bib had only border art
